Responding to the Supernatural: Karley’s Story

Apr 5, 2018 | America 4 Jesus, Insights

The supernatural is not something that we as believers often like to talk about, but the fact is that the world has no problem shouting about it from the rooftops. Books, movies, and TV shows all hit on topics of the supernatural, often distorting truth and spreading lies.

So, what should be our response to the supernatual?

As a Christian, you have authority over all the power of darkness, so you should never be afraid! Your response could make an eternal impact on those you reach with God's love. Karley experienced Jesus in a supernatural way to help one of her friends. Through her powerful testimony, we can each learn a little bit more about how Jesus has the ultimate power over darkness and what we can do to respond.

Karley's Story

Today, I went to my math class at HCC. We were having a review day and working in groups. One of the girls in my group came in 20 minutes late to class and joined our group. She looked… off. She seemed exhausted, stressed, and nervous.

At the end of class, I asked Maria if she was okay. She hesitated, but then began to tell me the issue. She explained that there was a guy that she had met on campus. They had only talked a few times in person, but she gave him her number. She said it was normal at first, but then she found out that he was a Satanist. He sent her some odd texts that previous night and ended up even calling her and scaring her to the core. She said that she thinks he suffers from multiple personality disorder.

Confused, I asked why she thought that. Apparently, when he called her, it wasn’t his voice. She described it as a terrifying, angry, evil sounding voice. Then, she shuddered and said his laugh was the scariest thing she has ever heard. He also threatened her.

At this point, my head was spinning. I said to block him and avoid him, but she still seemed so confused. I soon realized why.

She said, “I’m an atheist. I don’t even believe in a spiritual world.”

At this point, I knew that this was real. I could feel it. Then, I felt the Holy Spirit tell me to pray for her. I thought to myself, “She is an atheist! And we are standing outside in the middle of HC College. This is crazy.” But I knew that through Jesus, I had authority over any kind of evil spirit. I wasn’t afraid of whatever it could be. Then, I took a breath and said, “As you know, I’m a Christian. I believe that through Jesus Christ, you have authority over any evil spirit. Can I pray for you?”

I was expecting a no, but she said, “YES! Please pray for me.”So, I did. In the middle of the college, I started rebuking the spirit in the name of Jesus and prayed for it to be gone and for her to be safe. After I prayed for her, I could see the instant relief on her face after looking nervous all day. She said “I’m not sure why, but I feel safe. Like there is something protecting me.” I told her it was the Holy Spirit. I gave her my number and said I would keep her in my prayers.

On the way home, it hit me. The night before, my Pastor talked about how God can do anything, and not to limit him. As I went to bed, I prayed and told God that I would do whatever he told me to do, no matter how crazy, because I believe that through him I can do anything. The next day, this happened.

All I had to do was pay attention to the signs that she was off. Then, by asking what was wrong, listening, and offering to pray for her, she was able to feel peace from something that she isn’t even sure if she believes in. I don’t know what she believes now, but I know she feels safe and I know that I at least planted a seed.

I learned a lot today about obedience. Thank you Natalie and Joe, because their ministry has encouraged me. You believe in me and have helped to give me courage to pray for someone in a situation like this. I'll never be able to thank you enough.
